Liposuction/VASER Liposuction

image description
Liposuction, which is also known as liposculpture or lipoplasty, is a very commonly performed plastic surgery procedure used for removing stubborn deposits of fat through tiny incisions. In doing so, the contours of the body can be changed to create a slimmer and more attractive figure. The best candidates for liposuction are healthy and relatively fit, have firm, elastic skin, good muscle tone, and are within 30% of their ideal weight.

VASER® Liposculpture is the latest and most accurate type of liposuction which differs to traditional liposuction in that it uses ultrasonic waves to selectively breakdown/liquefy fat prior to its removal. This results in smooth, predictable results with minimal swelling and downtime. Since it is more tissue selective than traditional liposuction, patients report low to minimal pain as well as minimal swelling and bruising. Dr Miroshnik is one of the few surgeons in Australia to offer this type of technology to his patients.

Nonsurgical fat reduction with radiofrequency (Exilis) is another method of helping reduce unwanted areas of fat, Dr Miroshnik may often pre-treat stubborn areas with this technology prior to the actual liposuction procedure. For more information on Exilis, please click here.

Neck Liposculpture

Expand

Neck liposuction works by removing excess fat tissue, which reshapes the neck contour and creates a slimmer, more defined appearance, especially in profile. It can be performed alone or can also be performed with other procedures such as the neck & face lift.

Introduction Liposuction, which is also known as lipoplasty, is a very commonly performed plastic surgery procedure used for removing stubborn deposits of fat through tiny incisions. The regions of the body highlighted in this animation are some of the common areas in which fat deposits persist in spite of proper diet and exercise, creating a disproportionate appearance to the figure. Neck liposuction works by removing this excess fat tissue, which reshapes the neck contour and creates a slimmer, more defined appearance, especially in profile. It can be performed alone or can also be performed with other procedures such as the neck & face lift. As a sole treatment for excess fat deposits in the neck, the skin of the neck should be relatively elastic and not too abundant. Otherwise, a more effective treatment would be to combine the procedure with a neck lift.
image description
Preparation & Incision Liposuction of the neck generally lasts less than an hour. However, if the procedure is combined with a neck and/or face lift then the procedure time will be extended.

Prior to the start of your liposuction procedure, the region of the neck to be treated will be carefully marked and then cleansed.

Depending on the complexity of the procedure and the amount of fat that is removed, general anaesthesia or local anaesthesia in conjunction with IV sedation may be used. After you are sedated, Dr Miroshnik may make single or multiple tiny incisions in a crease just below the chin or behind the ears. These scars will usually be hidden in the contours of the body.
image description
Tumescent Fluid Injection While there are several different liposuction techniques, the tumescent technique is the most common type of liposuction procedure. Prior to removing fat, tumescent fluid is injected into the treatment area through a large hollow device known as the cannula.

This solution, which is composed of saline solution, a local anaesthetic and adrenaline, helps to numb the treatment area, control blood loss, and facilitate fat removal.
image description
Liposuction Dr Miroshnik will insert the liposuction cannula into the fat layer beneath your skin. Using a forward and backward motion, Dr Miroshnik will then use the cannula to loosen and break apart the fat tissue in the area.

A suction device, such as a surgical vacuum that has been attached to the opposite end of the cannula, is used to remove the fat.

In some instances, the fat may be removed manually using a syringe that has been attached to the cannula. Dr Miroshnik will often do this when the fat retrieved is needed to be used in another region of the body as a 'fat graft'. Following the procedure, the incisions will be closed with stitches, although some incisions are so small that they can heal without any stitches.
image description
Recovery You may experience some pain, swelling, and bruising following the procedure.

Dr Miroshnik may suggest that you wear a compression garment for two to six weeks, which will be an important part of your recovery process. A compression garment is tight-fitting, and holds the tissues together, while providing comfort and support as you heal.

The compression garment controls swelling by preventing fluid build up in the treatment area, and also helps the skin conform to the new contours of the body.
image description
Results You will likely be able to return to work in a few days and resume normal activity in approximately one to two weeks. You may be able to notice an improvement in your appearance very soon after surgery. An even greater improvement should be noticeable within four to six weeks following the procedure, as the swelling subsides.

The final results will most likely be noticeable in approximately three months. Although fat cells are permanently removed from the treatment area during the procedure, it is important to realise that liposuction does not prevent additional weight gain. In order to maintain the results from your procedure, it is important to follow a healthy diet and exercise routine.
